A Nation of Cowards: Marion Barry Declares We Have To Get These "Dirty" Asian Shops Out of Our Neighborhoods
When I saw "dirty" and "Asian," I thought maybe he was talking about brothels masked as massage parlors.
Nope. He means those "dirty" Asian shops where you buy "dirty" Coca-Cola and Slim-Jims.
"We've got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses -- those dirty shops," Barry said Tuesday night, after winning the Democratic primary for the city's Ward 8 seat and effectively securing a third council term.
Barry went on to say: "They ought to go. I'll just say that right now, you know. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too."
Does dehumanizing a disfavored racial group make violence and unfairness towards them more likely?
That's the central animating principle behind black Civil Rights leaders' pronouncements. To stop the behavior, we have to end the hate; and to stop the hate, we have to roundly condemn those who speak hateful words, lest people think such beliefs are true, or at least true enough to be socially acceptable.
And here Marion Barry, who was just of course reelected, is preaching racial pogroms.
Anyone?
But I guess there's no reason to make a fuss -- after all, angry blacks would never, ever commit violence out of racial grievance and hatred.
