To all the Veterans out there, I salute you. Thank you for your service and may those of us who still have the watch, measure up to the standards of previous generations of warriors and continue to serve America and keep the flame of freedom lit.
I went by a local VFW today. I bought a few rounds for some veterans and was regaled with stories of their time in service. Some were sad. Some were uplifting. It was an honor to hear their stories. Tremendous experience and one that I highly recommend y'all do sometime.
Slublog passed this via email. It is fascinating to think of this in light of the all-volunteer force we have today so you don't have to worry about your name being drawn in a lottery to get thrown into combat. Here was one of those lotteries that was taken on December 1st, 1969. What number would you have drawn? I drew a number over 300 and wouldn't have been drafted that year.
Military Working Dogs have been used by the U.S. Military since WW I.
The dogs were originally enlisted by the Quartermaster Corps, and a
diversity of breeds where accepted
Once knowledge and experience was gained the dogs of choice became the German Shepherd Dog and the Doberman. Due to the nature of work to be accomplished the Labrador eventually replaced the Doberman.
The German Shepherd remained the most frequently used dog. These dogs are
commonly referred to as War Dogs; however, the correct term is Military
Working Dogs. They have saved countless lives and casualties since the
beginning of their Military Service and they continue to do so today.
Top Military Bars
Hmmm. Top Ten Classic Military Spots To Drink A Beer. Some of these I haven't been to but I definitely have been to McGuire's Irish Pub a few dozen times. OK, maybe a few more dozen on top of that. To this day, I still haven't found a message my parents left me on a dollar bill there on the ceiling. You see, their entire ceiling is covered with dollar bills with messages. You could spend days trying to find a message. Still, a pretty cool joint with great ambiance.
My Pet Slut
What. The. Hell. First, we have teachers hookin' up with their students and now THIS? Porn Legend Sasha Grey Reads To 1st Graders. Where the hell was this when I was in school damn it?
#OccupyDenver Leader?
Is this the #OWS Denver dog that got elected as their leader? He's got some skills. I think.
Historical Figures As Bond Villains
9 Historical Figures Who Could Be Bond Villains. Interesting list but I really, really gotta disagree with Rupert Murdoch being on the list. That's just a pathetic, liberal wet dream of an idea that he's so evil in the journalist/media world. So who would you add to the list?
Red Tails
Yeah, yeah, I know. It's George Lucas and trailers have an annoying habit of making movies seem way better than the actual movie (Phantom Menace anyone?) but this third and final trailer of the movie Red Tails does look good.
Famous Veterans
Pretty significant list. Celebrities Who Served In The Military. Some of these were a surprise to me. Still a bunch missing though. I don't recall seeing Lee Marvin on the list.
Just Say No
I think it's safe to say that this beverage will NOT earn the coveted AoS HQ Approved Lifestyle Award. Flavored Alcohol Free Beverage. Yeah, that's right. An ALCOHOL-FREE Whisky drink. What's the use?
