Chicago volunteers to be burned to the ground in 2012! [Moe Lane]

James Taranto over at the WSJ noticed this little scheduling oopsie that probably should have gotten more airplay back in June:

June 23, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- World leaders are gathering in Chicago next year for two international summits. Both the NATO and the G8 summits will be held in May.

It will be the first time since 1977 in London that two international summits will be held at the same time in the same city. Security experts say it will be a security challenge that no American city has ever had to face. Planning is likely to focus on the possibility of violent demonstrations.

Now, to be fair: back in June the situation looked kind of different. As you may recall, back then progressive activists were still kind of convinced that they were going to somehow prevail in Wisconsin's state senate recall elections, which kept their spirits up (and their perceived danger to society low). But August gave us yet another replay of the netroots' theme song, and the current batch of pasty-skinned, patchouli-pungent, petulant, and privileged parasites wandering aimlessly around various major American cities right now are just starting to discover that drum circles and screaming at Jews isn't really going to fix what they perceive to be the problem with the America that's inexplicably not really interested in hiring people with a degree in gender semiotics.

So the progressives are probably going to get mean this winter - and the antiwar/antiglobo crowd is gearing up to target both the G8 and the NATO summits. That means blackshirt anarchists and Commie agitators in the streets of Chicago, and I can't imagine that they're going to be in a good mood*. Especially if Rahm Emanuel lets his inner Mayor Daley come out to play...

*Well, those types are never in a good mood. Being irrationally wedded to a frankly absurd and uniformly vile set of economic/political beliefs will do that to a person's temperament (not to mention, his/her soul). But they're going to be extra-special angry in June, given how they'll be still be inexplicably (to them, at least) unable to tap into the same dissatisfaction that the Tea Party so effortlessly (and responsibly) uses to promote and support true change. ..
