Overnight Thread-Thar Be Dragons Matey Edition [CDR M]

Evening Moron Nation. It is my pleasure to be able to post yet another ONT this fine Saturday evening. So get your cold beverage of choice (or warm one) and pull up your chair and prepare to be entertained and informed.

I came across this article the other day, A Brief History Of Dragons In Cinema. I must admit, overall most dragon movies have been pretty blah except for How To Train Your Dragon (which is absolutely awesome on Blu-Ray) and Dragonheart. Reign of Fire could've been so good but the execution was awful. I guess Sucker Punch has a dragon in it based on this video but I don't think it'll sate the appetite of a good, kick ass dragon movie.


The potential good news though is The Hobbit just started filming in New Zealand and we all know that Smaug the dragon
is the main antagonist so we just might get a very good dragon movie. Now who would be a good voice for Smaug? My gut reaction is James Earl Jones but there must be some others. I would've loved to have Raul Julia do it but he's, well, dead.


Now, back here in the real world, we used to have a real dragon in the sky. It was the AC-47 Gunship aka Puff The Magic Dragon. Here's a little history on that bad ass dragon.

"Whoever built 'Puff' had a sick mind." said one soldier. "At night it looked like a red line of light coming from the heavens, like Hell leaking fire."

"Once 'Puff' had done his work on an North Vietnamese Army company and we went out on patrol to count bodies," said another soldier. "We walked for about a mile and didn't see anything. First we could smell it, and then we couldn't believe what we saw. What was once 200 men was now a stream of slush. 'Puff' had shredded them to bits leaving nothing but communist mush. It was just like putting 200 men through a meat grinder. When Puff did his work there wasn't enough left to put in a bag and send home to Mama."



Now, I'm sure most of you have seen the just released full trailer for Captain America. Well, someone decided to modify the trailer and I think I like this version much better. Captain America, meet Team America.


I have one question after reading this story, Brisbane Boy's Sleepover Turns Into Real Life Horror Movie. Ok, maybe more than one question. He attacked a woman police officer with 6 30cm knives? I'm guessing a Freddie Krueger glove? Odd no mention of that in the story because I fail to see how the hell he's attacking someone with 6 individual knives. My next question is how the heck do you shoot someone in the family jewels and not charge them with something. Crazy stuff in Australia man.

This story is a bit disturbing. Google: A New Tool For U.S. Intelligence? That's all fine and good to use google search terms to see what a populace is interested in but you still need human intelligence on the ground and that, sadly, is where we suck. I would think it would be easy to manipulate those search terms to skew anything of value too. One should always scrub open source information but it really should be used to corroborate something that you learned of elsewhere. Plus, it's a bit weird to have government agencies snooping around your search terms and basing investigations on that. And it does not help that Google has stated a few times in the past that your expectation of privacy isn't all that in their eyes. See their legal issues with snoopin' on your wi-fi networks while doing their street view pictures and their CEO Eric Schmidt saying "If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. If you really need that kind of privacy, the reality is that search engines—including Google—do retain this information for some time and it's important, for example, that we are all subject in the United States to the Patriot Act and it is possible that all that information could be made available to the authorities."

BTW, this blog should be added for all you morons who want some good updates on anything and everything war related. War News Updates (Yes, it includes Kinetic Military Action updates too!).

Normally, I would say this is great news. STSS Satellites Demonstrate "Birth To Death" Missile Tracking. That is an awesome capability, especially if it can be successfully linked to our Aegis BMD ships. However, after reading Ace's post earlier this week that made it sounds like President Leon Lett wants to just hand over, fumble away if you will, our hard earned ABM secrets, then I get pissed. This stuff should never, ever see the light of day at a bargaining table.


Ah crap, I almost forgot about Earf Hour. All you morons make sure you turn on everything, I mean everything! And this means everyone of you. Just like Gary Oldman said in The Professional.

This is exactly why unions suck. Japanese Repair Quake Ravaged Road In 6 Days. 6 Days for that damage!! Good lord we'd be waiting 1 year just to get a stupid sign that says Highway Construction Project Brought To You By ARRA. 6 days with 100's of aftershocks going on. I want that attitude here man.
