Pelosi...We Have The Votes For Health Care. House Democratic Whip: Um, No You Don't
The important thing is that people who have no idea what they are doing are in charge of rearranging ~15% of the US Economy.
Pelosi yesterday.
"We have had, I have said for months, we will have a public option in our legislation," she said. "And we have the votes to do that. And we always have."
"The question now is what form will it take?" the speaker added.
The claim comes as the Huffington Post reported Wednesday that Democrats are eight votes shy of being able to pass a bill including the public option, with Pelosi having given House Democrats until this evening to declare how they currently stand on the bill.
The chief Democratic vote counter last night.
Clyburn professed optimism, but said Democrats hadn't yet achieved a majority for health reform legislation in the House.
"I think we`re very close. We`re getting there," he said during an appearance on MSNBC Wednesday evening. "We`re not there yet, but we`re getting there. I feel pretty good about this."
How excited do you think House Democrats are to vote for a public option that will bust the budget and likely die in the Senate? Sure there are some hard core liberals (maybe even 100) but that's not enough to pass something, just kill it.
Meanwhile, swing Democrats just saw the "Doctor's Fix" die yesterday. They know who killed it and that it wasn't the evilllll Republicans. How confident are they that Senate Democrats are going to sign up for a "Charge of the Light Brigade" run at the government option, public opinion be damned?
Clearly, the only people to blame for the Democrats not being able to get their act together are the Republicans. And Bush.
