Sen. Rockefeller Won't Vote for Any Bill Lacking a Public Option

I thought all of this sort of noise was coming from Pelosi's Praetorians in the House.

But here's big fat soft liberal Senator Jay Rockefeller saying he won't vote for any compromise bill.

Rockefeller cited four main concerns: The lack of a public insurance option, changes to Medicaid, changes to the State Children's Health Insurance Program, and overall affordability provisions. He did caution that he reserved the right to change judgments once the final bill comes out, although it's unlikely that bill will look much different than what Baucus has already released.

Later in the call, Rockefeller suggested four to six Demorats on the Finance Committee had similar feelings, although he didn't say (and may not know) whether they feel as strongly as he does.

It might very well be that a full-on liberal bill can only get 45 votes and a compromise semi-liberal-with-fake-centrist-stuff bill can only get 45 votes.

And thus Obama gets no bill at all.

Which would, of course, be racist.

If Obama doesn't get a bill that he can pretend improves people's lives, white bitter clingers will feel free to start spreading anti-Catholic tracts and shouting about "drunken filthy fish-eaters" and screaming about "creeping Papistry."

Don't believe it? Believe it. Every white person is one racially-coded wink-and-nod away from signing up with the Invisible Empire of the Ku Klux Klan. A Democratic Representative said so, so it must be true.
