Being Wrong (tmi3rd)
So, a few weeks after the Krauthammer remarks on Special Report, something dawned on me:
I was wrong.
Not that that's any really big thing- I'm wrong a lot- but in this case, I've been trying to figure out what makes me- and by extension, Krauthammer- wrong. Here's what I came up with.
I agreed- and to a point still do agree- with Krauthammer precisely because it lines up with my style of debating- which works pretty well one-on-one, but doesn't exactly control a large debate, create headlines, or get the attention of people who believe they rule people as opposed to representing them.
What got the attention of the media and, therefore, the politicians? Being loud. Being aggressive. Not letting anyone skate on not doing their jobs- be they politicians or be they media.
Krauthammer's point remains well-taken- if you're trying to convince someone who can be convinced. Does anyone really think we're going to change the politically entrenched by rationally discussing the issues with them, regardless of how reasonably the argument is made, and regardless of how many cold hard facts we throw at them?
No, the obvious result is that the current tactics are working. They're working because the left really doesn't like their own tactics used against them.
A parting thought, however- the tactics are working in that we have the decidedly undivided attention of the media, the politicians, and the left (assign your own order of importance). In order to win decisively, the slapdown must continue by being prepared to offer counterproposals when butthurt lefties ask "so what would you do?"
Anyway, fire away- and also, check out Doctor Zero's take on it over at Hot Air- he goes after Krauthammer in regards to his lack of understanding about just how effective a weapon Sarah Palin has been and continues to be on healthcare.
