Am I Stupid Enough to Get All Excited About a Tron Movie for the Second Time?
Especially now that the innovative effects of the old Tron are now crude?
Why yes, I am.
Tron benefits from a lot of reverse goodwill. (Badwill, I know, but I like reverse goodwill better here.)
Pretty much every kid was dying to see Tron, expecting it to be great. It wasn't great. At best, it was eh, at worst it was a piece of shit where you'd already seen all the good special effects in previews beforehand.
But oddly, the fact that it burned me once won't keep me from seeing the new Tron. Quite the opposite: Damnit, I was promised and I expected a good Tron 25 years ago and damnit I'm going to get me a good version of Tron if I have to sit through three more remakes by the time I'm 98.
