Overnight open thread – (genghis)
Item #1: “A False Hope.” On one of last week’s overnight threads I posted a heartwarming story about “Love Land,” China’s first sexually explicit theme park. All was not well though due to opposition from people who’ve never been laid and see no possibility of such happening in the remainder of their lifetimes. Much like all of you. But who am I to judge? Here’s the backstory, thread and link to the original article.
From the same source as the original story (ABC News, Australia) a chill wind is blowing across China as officials have ordered the theme park closed down (The chill wind is also causing shrinkage. They know about shrinkage, right? Don’t they?):
“China's first sexually explicit theme park has been torn down before it even started, after an outcry from officials, a Chinese newspaper has reported. Love Land, set to open in October in the south-western city of Chongqing, featured exhibits on sexual history and how-to workshops, the China Daily newspaper reported last week. A picture of the park entrance showed a signboard with the park's name straddled by a giant pair of women's legs topped by red underwear.”
There’s an AFP photo that comes with the article that shouldn’t be missed. Dean Wormer would be proud.
Lots more fun to be had below the fold…
Item #2: Saw this on Sunday, but “ParanoidGirlInSeattle” picked up on it as well: Dog’s Water Bowl may be Cause of Fire in Bellevue. Why do they hate us? Figured this might need some more play tonight.
Item #3: Again from ABC (Australia) who bring us Snakes on a Windshield! Eh, it’s thin…but I like the photo regardless whether it’s of the actual incident or a dramatization. The snake just seems…happy. For some reason.
Item #4: Finally, everything didn’t turn out as well as expected at a local meeting of Future Morons of America (F.M.A.) when the high-spirited youngsters decided to engage in a game of Lighter Tag.
: “Clallam County Fire District No. 2 responded to a subject with serious burns last night. Apparently the patient’s injuries were the result of a new fad, “lighter tag." This new game is played by teenagers and young adults who squirt lighter fluid on each other and then ignite the clothing. The individual who is tagged then runs and beats the flames out before tagging another player. The patient was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of the injuries.”
Ouch. Serious burns are no fun. Take it from one who knows.
