Obama In 1998: "Not A Huge Supporter Of Welfare Reform" [Nice Deb]
Conventional wisdom says that Obama lost control of the stimulus bill when he delegated it to Nancy Pelosi to craft. Well, I don't think it's fair to give Nancy all the credit. Many of the ideas in the Spendulus abomination bear the unmistakable whiff of the Messiah's input.
To Wit: Our friends at Naked Emperor News have unearthed yet another telling video from Obama's past:
I'd prefer a little less editing, and commentary, but it's clear Obama was no fan of Welfare Reform and wanted to find a way to repeal it going back to the nineties.
A reemerging "welfare" issue is a potential killer, in other words, for Obama's big remaining plans, especially health care. If Dems seem determined to reinstate dependency--or at the least blind to the dangers of dependency--voters aren't going to trust them to spend trillions on universal health insurance and fortified pensions. It's hard to believe Obama doesn't realize this.
