Coleman-Franken Update

Yesterday the judges further limited the rejected absentee ballots that will be included in the recount. That number had been trimmed to 4,800 over a week ago and is reduced now to an estimated 3,500.

The judges ruled that they won't count any ballots that don't comply with state law. The order places the burden on the Coleman team to establish both that a ballot was legally cast and that it was improperly rejected before it will be included in the recount total.

Democracy at work:

"We are obviously very pleased with the court's decision ... there's a large chunk of ballots that have now been taken out of play," said Franken lawyer Marc Elias.

The Coleman folks say that they are still confident they can overtake Franken's 225-vote lead.
