Leadership: Obama's Flack Refuses to Say What Changes the President Would Support or Urge
I noticed this myself, but Geraghty spares me the writin' about it part of the post.
It's not leadership to just stand back and let factions clash without direction.
Not leadership. Simply passivity. He doesn't care what's in the bill. He just wants a bill.
Bush did this a fair amount and it infuriated me. But this guy is taking it to a new level -- he won't even list his vague priorities and criteria.
Obama is not bull-rushing this through Congress for the sake of the economy. He's doing so for his own sake. He sees the polls crumbling on this abortion, and he can't bear the thought of losing so early in his tenure. Thus he ratchets up the fear, claiming an apocalypse if we dare debating a trillion dollar spending bill for more than a week.
Geraghty also notes the pure unmitigated bullshit of his calls for "dialog" and "bipartisanship:"
Obama is saying, simultaneously, "the time for talk is over" and that he also wants to see the bill improved. The message is, "I want additional efforts to improve it, but stop debating and pass it."
Also at NRO: Spruiell and Williamson summarize exactly how awful this bill is in 50 De-Stimulating Facts.
The amount of anything that can be even arguably called "stimulus" in this excrescence is tiny. Meanwhile, Obama and his clatch rule out all sorts of spending that would actually be "timely, targeted, and temporary," like speeding up military procurement or building/improving military bases that are slated to be built or improved in three or four years anyway.
