Email of the Day: It's Not Too Late to Knock on Doors and Change Minds
Bumped. Can you spare three days to move votes?
PS, if you're going to do this, download key YouTube videos -- Obama's Redistribution of Wealth quote, the What Happened ad from American issues project -- so you can show people this stuff.
They haven't seen it. They're low-information and the media refuses to tell them this stuff. They might not believe you when you talk about Obama's redistribution of wealth quote -- but if you play it for them...
Also, maybe McCain's new ad (below) about Obama's tax cut "welfare." Maybe the Journal article itself noting that. His "tax cut" for people who don't pay taxes is not a "tax cut;" it's redistribution of wealth from those who pay taxes to those who don't.
I've been reading the various posts and comments today about Getting Out the Vote reguarding 'Door to Door' and phone banking and I really had to pass some of these thoughts along that I wish you would direct to your readers, who need to stfu, get off their computers and go help.
Um, by stfu, I'm pretty sure he means "Stop The Fucking Uhhbama."
First, regarding who we are contacting in general in these last few days: we are contacting people who have poor turnout rates as well as people who we believe to be undecideds or possible McCain supporters based on a variety of factors that are really hard to explain (consumer data, associations, the like). We are very confident in this information and have been doing this for years. We are way better than the Obama people because we've been doing this longer and our lists are older. We also know the quirks of from state to state, like how Ohio has a number of counties on their state wide voter registration file which are not up to date. Also, there is no "Do not call" list associated with this stuff. This is legal information provided when you register to vote, and political parties get this information by signing complex legal agreements which basically say if they use them for profit, they will be viciously sued.
Second, regarding phone banking. We know what we are doing with these lists and these calls. How the hell do people think we won in 2004? A hope and a prayer? No, we dove down into the base by turning out people who frankly suck at voting unless they are harped on. The people who get calls all the time? Shitty voting records. They may argue, but a lot of people think if they vote every four years, thats good. It's not. Every election factors in, and voting in the primaries in 2004, 2006, and 2008, as well as the generals is better than only voting in 2004 and 2008. Anyone who doesn't realize this (and there are a lot of people) need to figure it out quick. Calls are important. Barraging people to death works. If anyone wants examples of races, i can provide them, but I really shouldnt need to. The proof is in the puddin.
Finally, regarding 'Door to Doors". I hate them. I really do. I've been doing them for a week in MO (along with the phoning) as a deployed guy but I hate to admit that it works. Everyone who hates being contacted needs to remember that in these cases, they are being bothered because their votes matter, and 35 states cannot say that. We really try to send them to undecideds, and they really do work, particularly on E-day where people will use any excuse not to vote. That's hard for us hardass politico's to get, but its true. People suck at voting.
Ok that's it, but someone needs to broadcast the phone and walk stuff. There are so many idiots out there who think they know more than people like Rove who have won the big ones, who know what it takes, where and why. This misinformation needs to stop and Republicans and conservatives need to nut up and do the work. That's the difference on the ground this year: Obama has intense supporters who care. We have a small small select base who care and work for it and a large bitchy group who want to point fingers. STFU and work for it or we dont deserve it.
Here's the sign-up for McCain/Palin's 72 hour get-out-the-vote effort.
Not to be all party planner, but maybe it would be fun to do this in groups with other readers? Maybe you can note the states you can do this in and call for other readers to contact you?
It probably seems like a massive cost to take a trip to another state just to work Saturday through Monday, but, on the plus side, just about every hotel now has porno movies for ten dollars.
Pretty sweet deal, really.
