Even Better: Mark Salter Raises Fannie and CRA As Campaign Issues
Not good enough, of course. I have long suspected -- with some fair amount of confirmation -- that many if not most of McCain's aides are perplexed and frustrated by his insane refusal to use this as an issue.
Does this mean McCain is preparing to unleash the subprime issue? No, alas. It just means Mark Salter let his frustrations bubble over in that previously linked interview with Jeffrey Goldberg of gay gossip site and antisemitic conspiracy newsletter The Atlantic.
"...everyone knows how this mess got started: people pushing sub-prime loans on people who can't afford to pay them back. That's how it got started. Which party is more culpable for that phenomenon? The Democrats! The Democrats are. We say, if you want to pin political blame pin it on the Democrats for the Community Reinvestment Act and all the things they did protecting Fannie and Freddie, a position Barack Obama wholly shared. But what do we get in the media? That Rick Davis lobbied for Fannie Mae. We get no competing narrative."
I'm sorry, but for once I'm going to partly defend the MSM: The reason that there is no competing narrative is that the Republican standard-bearer refuses to offer one.
Because it's racist. Or something.
Thanks to Tom with the sharp eyes.
Insurrection! This would seem to be a good time to re-link the post urging contributions to the third party groups pushing this issue.
This has not quite taken the rightwing blogosphere by storm, I'm disappointed to say. Seriously, blogosphere: If you agree that this is an important issue, write your own post urging donations to these groups or link this one. Either/or. I don't care about the traffic. But I do think it's critical to get this game-changing information out there.
Don't you?
