Prison Break Has Totally Jumped Back Over the Shark
Okay, so I don't really buy that this group of convicts, connected together only by a previous jailbreak (and the fact that they're all still under contract with the show) would be shanghaied by a shadowy government agent working against an even more shadowy paragovernmental conspiracy to do a series of heists and cons.
But, if you do buy that, it's a lot of fun.
Prison Break has always had a hard-on for making despicable villains and then humanizing them, little by little, until they became quasi-heroes, or at least became aligned with the Brothers Scofield. This time, though, they've struck gold, as former psychotic junkie and FBI hitman Alex Mahone has not only become a hero, but probably the series' real star at this point.
Michael's good and all, but a bit of a one trick pony; but the show really is good when it's focused on the still-kinda-crazy Mahone. Played by probably my favorite "That Guy" actor out there, William Fitchner.
I fear they're giving him a lot of screentime because they plan a dramatic death. I hope not. They tend to kill off the interesting evil-ish guys.
Just had to say. Good to have this show back.
Good line as Agent Self explains to Michael Scofield, mastermind of the Fox River Penitentiary prison break, how difficult a break-in will be:
Self: You don't understand. The Department of Homeland Security pays millions of dollars to top security specialists to make sure this place is absolutely impregnable.
Scofield (unimpressed): Yeah, they had those guys at Fox River, too.
