John McCain Announces Intent to Run on Integrity, "Conscious" »

Notably Pessimistic Blogger Feigns Excitement Over New CBS Poll: McCain Within Three?
Within three, among likely voters, cutting Obama's lead down from 9 since the Palin-Biden debate alien autopsy.
Do I believe it? No, not with Gallup and Rasmussen both showing 8 point leads. I'd like to believe, but for now I say: Outlier.
However, it could be that Palin has goosed the ticket a little bit and recaptured a bit of her former attractiveness to women and independents. And I certainly like the direction.
Who knows. I'll be watching Gallup and Rasmussen closely tomorrow.
Jay Cost, by the way, disagrees with me and thinks that McCain might as well "pee into the wind" as attempt to deflect blame from Republicans when it comes to a banking crisis. He suggests just hitting Obama on Ayers and Wright.
I say: Um, okay, can we not try all three?
Here's why Cost is wrong: The public is incensed that they have to pick up the tab for these deadbeat mortgagors, and we have every fucking Democrat on videotape saying we need to subsidize them more.
Even if McCain can't win on this issue, I am quite sure there is a meaningful difference between losing on one issue by five and losing by 30.
