Conservatism: The ideology of diversity. [Tushar]
Aren’t you sick of Democrats claiming forever that they are the party of diversity, and tolerance? They talk and talk, and the crusty old GOP delivers. We don’t care about the identity of the person, as long as he/she shares our values and principles. We don’t care about the gender, sexual orientation or a few unorthodox ideas in a person. All we ask is, “Is the person capable of doing the job at hand? Does he/she share a good portion of our values?”
We are the people who appoint a Supreme Court Justice who respects the Constitution (imagine that!). We appoint a patriotic Secretary of State who brings enormous expertise to the table and builds our global alliances. We elect a Governor who cares deeply about the people of his state, and has the policy firepower to make real change. We appoint to RNC chair a person who lives and breathes party organization. We put on the ticket a staunch Conservative who shares our rock-ribbed Middle American values.
We don’t care if these people are men or women, straight or gay. White, black or brown. They are where they are because of their principles, values and expertise. As long as you follow the basic tenets of conservatism, we don’t nitpick your position on every little thing. We don’t even mind pro-choice people, as long as a rabid pro-choice position is not the primary badge you wear.
Heck, I don’t know if President Bush is even aware that Condoleezza Rice is black.
And how do the Donks go about valuing diversity? They identify a person primarily by his/her color, gender and sexual orientation. They judge your worth by putting you up in the correct slot on the ‘Grievance totem pole’. On this totem pole, you climb up if you belong to a violent and intolerant religion. You go down if your skin color is light. You go up if you are a homosexual. You go down if you have chosen to marry and have children. If a Muslim, black, lesbian woman ever comes along, she will sweep Obama from the top of the charts. He is only partially black and a little Muslim. She would be the epitome of liberal virtues.
As long as you observe a rigid obeisance to the liberal orthodoxy, you are welcome in the fold. Differ a bit on just one issue, and you will be thrown out before you can say ‘Lieberman’.
And Marx save the poor soul who dares to be a Conservative and thus betray his gender, color and sexual orientation! They are merciless when they shred you to pieces. We saw this with Clarence Thomas and now with Sarah Palin. How dare these people betray their color and gender?
We have a very small list (in no specific order) of basic views that we would love you to share with us:
· A belief that the Govt. should keep its nose out of our business. We are their employers, not slaves or children.
· A respect for Constitution. A belief that legislature should legislate and the judiciary should judge, not be creative with the constitution.
· Tax policy should aim at financing the basic functions of Govt.: Defense, law & order. Not as a tool for wealth redistribution.
· A love for America, and a commitment to a Strong National Security.
· A basic respect for fairness and human life.
There are probably a few more, but will probably boil down to these.
*Am I confusing Conservative & Liberalism with Republicans and Democrats? May be I am, but the parties are pretty much divided along the ideological line, save an Arlen Specter here and a Zell Miller there. No wait. Zell Miller is out. The party of tolerance could not tolerate his love for America.
