Women’s World Cup soccer team room secretly videotaped [dri]
“WUHAN, China -- Denmark demanded more answers Friday following a FIFA investigation into why two men with video cameras were hiding behind a two-way mirror in the team's meeting room. "
"The alleged spying happened Tuesday, the eve of Denmark's opening match against host China at the Women's World Cup. The men, who the team spokeswoman said were Chinese, were discovered a half-hour before Denmark was to hold a strategy meeting.”
Apparently surreptitious video cheating is widespread in many sports and at many levels.
The recent Patriots video scandal underlines the impunity with which teams openly committed such practices. They knew that other teams would not make official complaints because the other teams would be exposed for committing their own dubious practices.
This newest video cheating scandal involving China is even more disturbing because it suggests a systematic, organized effort by China to cheat in amateur sporting events. Such developments do not bode well for the foreign participants of the upcoming Beijing Olympics.
