Global Warming Irregularities: Coldest August In NYC In Sixty Million Years
Sixty million? I don't know. That's a guesstimate. I learned how to do that in an SAT prep course, to help me avoid "the Joe Bloggs answer."
Probably a long time though. Look, all I know is that I should never pick answer A.
Don't forget to bundle up if you're headed out in New York City today. After all, it is August 21.
The city along with the rest of the tri-state region is feeling the chilly effect of a cold front sweeping through the region, accompanied by cool rain showers.
As of 4 p.m., the high temperature for the day in Central Park was just 59 degrees.
The normal high for today is 82 degrees. The normal low is 67, still well above what the city is expected to see today. Forecasters say temperatures could warm up to only around 61, which would break a city record, though the high fell back again to 58 degrees at 3 o'clock.
"If this high holds up, it will smash the previous record for the coldest high temperature for the day, which is 64 degrees, set back in 1999," CBS 2 meteorologist Jason Cali told wcbstv.com.
In fact, if it doesn't warm up at all for the rest of the day, the 59-degree high would tie the record for the coldest high temperature ever for the month of August in New York City, when it reached just 59 degrees in 1911.
1911? I guess I highballed it with that sixty millions years thing.
Note well this is the first story about the weather in NYC which does not mention global warming as a culprit in, if I'm counting right, the past sixty million years.
Good global warming links below.
David sent me some stuff about AGW.
The thing to remember is that AGWers needed to "get rid of the medieval warming period", that's what the hockey stick tried to do, but Mann used bad math and the statisticians found him out. If you go to wikipedia page on Medieval Warming period, there are about 17 scientific papers supporting it, and just one dissenting cite, which leads you to a NOAA page that says the hockey stick disproved the MWP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_Warm_Period scroll down to references to see links to papers
This is why guys like Hansen at GISS NASA and his cohorts at NOAA are pushing manipulated data going only back to 1880, so they can gin up another hockey stick, scare the public etc. If you show some the graphs in the Archibald paper I sent you earlier, you can see the big picture.
Another good site is http://www.surfacestations.org/about.htm these guys are taking pics of all the weather temp stations used by GISS Hansen to show that many are badly located in urban heat zones, and non compliant with siting regulations. Hansen won't give out his algorithms (AlGorethms) on how he massages the data to get his hockey stick graphs as he doesn't want the public to find out his science is garbage.
The hero is the former mining engineer and statistician Steve Mcintyre who helped debunk Mann's hockey stick and also was the guy who forced GISS Nasa to revise their hottest year to 1934. www.climateaudit.org
If you have the time to read some of the stuff on these sites you'll see what's going on. Our taxpayer supported NASA GISS and NOAA are all in the tank with Al Gore.
An Army of Davids is fighting them. We're going to win.
On the off chance you haven't seen it, here's that excellent British documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle." An hour and fifteen minutes but worth every minute. This is one of the last remaining online files of the documentary, so if you ever want to see it, now might be a good time.
Here's McKitrick's paper debunking the "Hockey Stick" (in PDF form). Brief, easy reading, and absolutely infuriating. The entire AGW myth is based on this lie-- a lie that took years to expose because the guy who created it refused to share his methodology and of course none of his fellow global warming cultists bothered asking him for his data or formulas. Turns out it was all based on a gross mathematical error -- and, to a lesser extent, dishonest usage of dubious data.
It took years for this error to be exposed because, like James Hansen, he refused to show his work, violating a basic rule of science, and defeating the entire reproducible results principle of the scientific method.
Here's another PDF paper linking global temperature variations directly to sunspot cycles. Unlike the conveniently unfalsifiable "theories" of global warming, this guy makes firm predictions which can be checked over the next couple of years to see if his theory is right or wrong.
If he's right -- and I have no idea if he is, of course -- the AGW cultists are going to look mighty foolish around 2010 or so, just when their predictions of "global warming going into overdrive" are supposed to come to pass. Because, this guy says, the world is about to get cooler in the next several years.
The bad news? He thinks the cooling will be like the Little Ice Age that chilled the world in the 1800's, if not worse.
Not an end of the world prediction -- but the Little Ice Age was called that for a reason, rather than, say, "The Age of Merriment and Sexyfun."
Another Link: Climactic change due entirely to the syncing up, and then syncing out, of oceanic currents?
Also links to a new study by the Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute stating that CO2 (the Invisible Killer) simply does not have the fantastical properties global warming cultists assign it.
