New Comments Thingy Bandaid Mk 2
Okay, updating the web framework didn't solve the problem, so I went back to the fix I tried a couple of days ago - running multiple copies of new comments thingy simultaneously. There were a couple of issues with that; I needed to modify the code to manage user sessions across the multiple servers and to properly identify users' IP addresses (because it's now running behind a reverse proxy). The last time I did it, the first thing that happened was that it banned everyone. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but not what I had intended.
That's all done, and we are now running with six copies of New Comments Thingy. If one of them dies, I can easily find it and restart that one while the other five keep things going. (The reverse proxy automatically diverts traffic to the other processes.)
I still haven't identified the underlying bug, but I do know that it's in the web framework rather than New Comments Thingy itself. That helps, though not a lot...
If comments are down at any time, email me at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net. I will keep working on this until it is resolved, but if it dies again in the meantime, please let me know so I can get it restarted as quickly as possible.
