It Begins: Racial Profiling A Go In Britain

What did you guys think was going to happen? Did you think we were just going to let your fellow Muslims kills us, with only the smallest amount of help from you in stopping them, forever?

Did you think we would never decide "It is you who are causing the problem. It is you who should bear most of the inconvenience/'humiliation' from the problem"?

What you've been taking as "weakness" and "stupidity" was just a naive, idealistic hope that if we treated you well enough you would stop. You didn't. The naivete and idealism are giving way to cold hard ugly realities forced upon us by your soft support of terorism.

THE Government is discussing with airport operators plans to introduce a screening system that allows security staff to focus on those passengers who pose the greatest risk. The passenger-profiling technique involves selecting people who are behaving suspiciously, have an unusual travel pattern or, most controversially, have a certain ethnic or religious background.

The system would be much more sophisticated than simply picking out young men of Asian appearance. But it would cause outrage in the Muslim community because its members would be far more likely to be selected for extra checks.

I'm not British, but my reserve of concern for "Muslim outrage" is quite tapped out.

Gone.

You emptied the tank.

We no longer care so much about living in a tolerate, perfectly-equal multiethnic society.

We now care much more about living. Period.

Officials at the Department for Transport (DfT) have discussed the practicalities of introducing such a system with airport operators, including BAA. They believe that it would be more effective at identifying potential terrorists than the existing random searches.

They also say that it would greatly reduce queues at security gates, which caused lengthy delays at London airports yesterday for the fifth day running. Heathrow and Gatwick were worst affected, cancelling 69 and 27 flights respectively. BAA gave warning yesterday that the disruption would continue for the rest of the week.

Exactly.

Muslims will say, "Why should be inconvenienced or humiliated for the excesses of a few?"

And the rest of us say, "Why should we be inconvenienced or humiliated for the excesses of Muslims, when they seem to be active or passive supporters of the Muslim terrorists causing all of the problems?"

It's coming to America, too, most likely.

We are just tired of it.

We don't care any more.

The outrage you'll now be directing at us should have been directed at the terrorists and terrorist-inciters and terrorist-supporters among you five years ago.

But it wasn't.

So now here we are.

How ya like them apples?

More... from Dan Riehl:

Sane Muslims can have a far greater impact in combating Islamo-fascists than any other particular group. To date, they absolutely have not done their part. It's time to start giving them incentive, along with sending them the message that we will not ignore the source of much of the worlds terrorism.

Muslims will plead that the incovenience and suspicion for the war on terror should be distributed equally and without regard to religion.

But why should that be so? The entire problem of terrorism is not distributed equally, nor without regard to religion. It is almost exclusively the fault of young Muslim men, in turn sheltered by the greater Muslim community.

Why should the hassel and inconvenience of this be borne by all equally when the likely perpetrators are nearly all young Muslim men, or Muslims generally?

K says:

We don't know how this will play out. But people are becoming polarized about the Muslim situation. One Sunday I discussed it with a friend and he quite unexpectedly said:

"If civil rights must go they will go. Rights can return. They have before. But the dead will stay dead."

He referred to severe restrictions during many conflicts.

Kind of how I feel, and not just about racial profiling. NSA man, tak a look at my Internet search records. I don't care if some bureaucrat knows I spend a lot of time trolling for porn. It's embarrassing, but I'd rather be a little embarrassed than a lot dead.

Dinocrat Calls It The Choice Between Hating Annoyance And Hating Evil: It's good enough for him:

We would prefer that people react strongly to the evil embodied by the Islamic fascist juvenile delinquents and their creepy imam mentors. But we’ll settle for people reacting strongly to the annoyance and inconvenience they cause. In today’s upside-down world, you take what you can get.

Thanks to larwyn, who wonders if body-conscious overweight people, now subjected to either pat-downs or embarrassing virtual body scans, will be the next to tip to the Anti Terrorism Coalition.

It's a bit glib, but people's willingness to undergo inconvenience and embarrassment on behalf of sparing another person the same inconvenience and embarrassment is quite limited. Especially when that other is more capable of undoing the entire need for the inconvenience and embarrassment altogether, but chooses not to.
