Hajj Update: All 920 Of Hajj's Photos Pulled After Investigation (By Blogs) Reveals Two (And Counting) Forgeries
Sweet. Confirmation not only for LGF, but for My Pet Jawa:
Reuters withdrew all 920 photographs by a freelance Lebanese photographer from its database on Monday after an urgent review of his work showed he had altered two images from the conflict between Israel and the armed group Hizbollah.
Global Picture Editor Tom Szlukovenyi called the measure precautionary but said the fact that two of the images by photographer Adnan Hajj had been manipulated undermined trust in his entire body of work.
...
The news and information agency announced the decision in an advisory note to its photo service subscribers. The note also said Reuters had tightened editing procedures for photographs from the conflict and apologized for the case.
Removing the images from the Reuters database excludes them from future sale.
...
An immediate enquiry began into Hajj's other work.
It established on Monday that a photograph of an Israeli F-16 fighter over Nabatiyeh, southern Lebanon and dated Aug 2, had also been doctored to increase the number of flares dropped by the plane from one to three.
Of course that photo was exposed as fake by My Pet Jawa yesterday. (Well, I think they proposed it was fake Saturday night; they proved it yesterday.)
Nice going, Rusty, Dorkafork, and Vinnie.
Hell of an operation Reuters has going there, huh?
To recap:
LGF: credited (properly) with exposing first hoax pic
My Pet Jawa: not yet credited with exposing second hoax pic, but they should/will be
Ace of Spades: credited by Ynet news as "an idiot"
That seems about right.
Thanks to David, also known as Mrs. Susan McKibbish.
PS: Reuters' global picture editor said there was "no graver breach" than the deliberate alteration of pictures.
If that's the case -- why wasn't he more vigilant about patrolling for this gravest of all breaches? Even an idiot, as I said, could see that pic was altered.
Does Reuters' global editor not even rise to the level of idoicy?
Update: Muqata blog seems to have had this first, even before it was announced on the wires.
Self-Serving Link Update: According to the Washington Times, I am not, necessarily, an idiot.
Progress.
