More Good Stuff From Juan Cole
As Tigerhawk says in an email, this is sort of getting tedious, and it's what I'm trying to avoid.
Still, it serves as a nice exclamation point to the post below.
Why doesn't the left blog about the Israel-Hezbollah War?
Because when they do, they tend to post crap like this. (Tigerhawk link, not a link to Juan Cole.)
Juan Cole plays a game of Which of these things is not like the others?: Germany's Hitler, Cambodia's Pol Pot, Iran's Ahmadinejad, Israel's Olmert.
The answer will surprise you.
Actually, it won't surprise you. It'll just pisss you off.
Much like this will.
Via Alarming News.
I go back and forth on whether the blanket "antisemite" charge is really fair to level against the left. On one hand, there really are a lot of confirmed Jew-haters among them. On the other hand, I try to keep in mind that many of them aren't anti-Jew per se, but reflexively, moronically anti-Western.
But then things like this pop up, and it reminds me that at some point, an anti-Israeli animus becomes sufficiently hardened, reflextive, and virulent that it does, yes, simply become run-of-the-mill anti-semitism.
There will be much chatter among the left about Mel Gibson. There will, of course, be no such chatter at all about his fellow travellers in the entirety of the European artistic community.
What Mel Gibson says when he's drunk, the Edinburgh Film Festival governing committee says when it's sober, to borrow a witticism from Ann Coulter.
Really... Some of the stuff in that Roger L. Simon link has to be read to be believed. The dirty Jew's entry-fee money is only being accepted as it's been laundered through European banks, and thus isn't quite as tainted; he's only being accepted at all because he's pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel; he shows the sort of "nuance" the film commnunity should appreciate, the same sort of nuance that Michael Moore (!) and Noam Chomsky (!!) do.
Hee, hee, hee.
Nuance.
Layers.
Also At Karol's: Toughen up, Yids, and just take it, says the UK Telegraph.
They really say that, pretty much. Minus the "Yids," of course, but I think that's implied.
(PS, I know a commenter said something very similar the other day (as a parody, of course). I'm swiping without a hat-tip, I know.)
