Enough With The Endless, Senseless Blog Feuds
I am so livid at Wuzzadem for this I am forced to link it in order to demonstrate my outrage.
Please. This madness needs to stop.
Eventually. I think, pace the UN, a three to four week window should be good enough.
And then, seriously, let's all just stop.
Next month.
Something occurs to me, though. While Allah at Hot Air deemed it a "bad week" for the blogosphere last week due to another Frisch flare-up and, I believe, my blog-feud with Paul from Wizbang!...
...is it really necessary, or even desirable, to have complete civility in the blogosphere?
Christopher Hitchens and Alexander Cockburn used to get into famously ugly pissing matches. Now, don't think I have any illusions; I'm no Christopher Hitchens. I'm not even an Alexander Cockburn. Or at least I assume I've not. Never read a word the man's written.
Personal spats seem to me -- at least as a kinda uniformed observer mostly talking out of my ass -- to be somewhat common in the highly partisan British opinion press.
As blogging's closest model is the highly partisan opinion press (not sure about the British part), is it all that surprising that personal grudge matches would similarly arise from time to time? And have such personal disputes badly damaged the British partisan opinion press ?
I don't know. Obviously, I'm biased on questions of civility, taste, and decorum (I'm against them), but the British political tradition seems more vital and lively, if frequently venomous, than the boring American version.
Oh, great. Another Tim Russert snoozefest. David Broder droning on and on about absolutely nothing at all while William Safire does a crossword puzzle and Maureen Dowd does her mumblng marblemouth vamp routine.
Again: the bias. The very pronounced bias. Probably just me attempting to class up my juvenile trash-talking by associating it with the British.
Just tossing it out there.
