Seattle Shooter Recently Baptised As Christian, Supposedly
James Joyner takes this as an opportunity for snarking at conservative bloggers who somehow got the idea the Jew-hating, violence-ambiguously-condemning culture he grew up with might have had something to do with the crime.
Just a lone nut, Joyner insists. Why bring the Muslim thing into it all? Doesn't his conversion to Christianity dispel such suspicions?
I don't know. Seems to me he grew up in a culture that luxuriated in scapegoating Jews and and wasn't precisely full-throated about condemning religiously inspired violence.
I wonder if Mr. Joyner imagines this guy, who's just another nut, learned all his hatred of Israel during the three or four months of Christian teaching he receieved before baptism.
"Okay, we were going to get into original sin and redeption again, but let's face it, that's just a side-show, and bit boring, if you want to know the truth of it. Here's what you really have to know: The Jews killed Christ, and Christ wants a little payback."
Eh. I suppose contrarianism for the sake of contrarianism has its virtues, even if it's a dopey, preening sort of contrarianism.
