Representative Murtha (D-Vietcong Anti-Aircraft Gun): We Can Redeploy Troops To... Okinawa
Remember when he said he wasn't talking about cutting and running, or retreating, but "merely" an "over-the-horizon redeployment" of troops that could respond to terrorism swiftly, if needed?
You know what's over the horizon? Okinawa. That's where he suggests we could relocate our "Iraq Rapid Response Forces." Okinawa. Japan.
Nevermind that this is absurd anyway. He says he wants our troops to be able to respond to terrorism-- well, umm, in case he hasn't noticed, there's terrorism going on right now, so, according to his "plan," they'd have to stay anyway, right?
Further, it seems rather improbable to imagine that, having withdrawn our troops amidst great controversy and tumult, we would ever re-insert them into Iraq for virtually any reason.
It's cutting and running, pure and simple. He's trying to make it seem like it's not by suggesting that maybe, if we really had to, we could go back in and fight terrorists, if they should happen to show up suddenly.
We'd just steam over from the Sea of Japan. And then begin offloading men and materiel and tanks and weapons and planes and supplies, and then setting up bases, and then, within the short span of say three to four weeks, we'd be all ready for a limited re-invasion of Iraq.
Sounds good to me! But then, I'm a freaking moron.
