Drudge: American Soldier Captured (?)
I hope not; if this is true, of course, our prayers are with this man.
But there are reasons for doubt. First of all, it's just a picture, not a video, which is more easily faked.
Second:
A statement posted with the picture suggested the group was holding other soldiers.
"Our mujahadeen heroes of Iraq's Jihadi Battalion were able to capture American military man John Adam after killing a number of his comrades and capturing the rest," said the statement, signed by the "Mujahedeen Brigades."
I think if there were "other soldiers" (presumably US) we'd know about it by now.
And that name-- "John Adam"? Why not "John Smith"?
It's quite possible this is all true, and of course that's horrible.
On the other hand, this may be a desperate hoax, trying to "divert attention" (as Josh Marshall might say) from the impressively-successful elections of Sunday.
