The ACLU and Others Doing a John Kerry Spiel
First there were allegations of "torture" at Abu Ghraib. (Mind you, this "torture" did not cause me to lose any sleep.) Then there were incidents "tantamount to torture" at Guantanamo Bay. Now, the ACLU has released documents describing "abuse" of Iraqi "civilians" by the U.S. military, which were obtained as a result of a lawsuit they initiated. (My my, what else is new?)
The documents list dozens of allegations of abuse at American detention centers - the use of cigarettes to burn prisoners, aggressive dogs, electric shocks, sexual humiliation and beatings - that began at about the same time such acts were occurring at Abu Ghraib prison.
Furthermore, the Washington Post reports that five non governmental organizations also obtained army documents through lawsuits detailing the abuse of Iraqi "civilians." (The site requires registration, sorry.)
These liberal groups fail to grasp the fact that terrorists are not going around in military uniform. They dress as civilians, all the better to blend in and escape capture by coalition troops. So for me, this just shows how desperate these terrorist apologists are getting.
They also choose to ignore the fact that terrorists are not protected under the Geneva Convention, which only applies to a country's soldiers, in uniform, and hope that all Americans will do the same.
