Please Help The Gitmo 23! (John from WuzzaDem)

According to ABC News:

Twenty-three terror suspects tried to hang or strangle themselves at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay during a mass protest in 2003, the military confirmed Monday.

Apparently some 'overzealous' American soldiers stopped them before they could complete their 'mass protest.'

Where is the ACLU? Don't these guys have rights?

I realize that Guantanamo is in Cuba, but isn't a military base considered sovereign territory of the United States? If it is, then what about the right of The Gitmo 23 to peacefully protest (I'm assuming, for the sake of argument, that they were doing this quietly) by hanging themselves?

But wait, there's more:

In 2003, there were 350 "self-harm" incidents, including 120 "hanging gestures," according to Lt. Col. Leon Sumpter, a spokesman for the detention mission.

Last year, there were 110 self-harm incidents, he said.

So where are the right-to-die advocates? It seems like they can't wait to pull the plug on Terry Schiavo (again) so that she can die of starvation and dehydration, based on the word of her scumbag husband. Now that George Felos (Terry's scumbag husband's scumbag attorney - no offense to scumbags) has won Schiavo's husband the right to kill her, maybe he can do some pro bono work for The Gitmo 23. But hey, if he's strapped for cash, I'd be glad to take up a collection.

Amnesty International has chimed in, but as usual they're off-base. According to Alistair Hodgett, a spokesman for Amnesty International's office in Washington:

"When you have suicide attempts or so-called self-harm incidents, it shows the type of impact indefinite detention can have..."

It sounds like Alistair thinks they should be set free. HELLO? I think what these guys want is to kill themselves. If they wanted to get free then they would have tried to escape. What a maroon.
