Kevin McCarthy Will Leave Congress "At the End of the Year"
Not at the end of the current Congress, which extends into January. But at the end of the year.
This will leave us with only a 1 member majority for a period.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is resigning from Congress early and will not run for reelection next year, punctuating a historic Capitol Hill career after 15 rounds of voting to become speaker in January and getting ousted 10 months later by a conservative rebellion.
"I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways. I know my work is only getting started," McCarthy said in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal.
Though McCarthy's next steps are uncertain, he has promised to stay involved in Republican politics. The California Republican declined to make another bid for the gavel after being removed as speaker in October.
Marjorie Taylor Greene supported McCarthy like she was possessed, likely just because McCarthy had not sided with moderate/Establishment GOPers who wanted to discipline her. She's still raging about deposing McCarthy.
But she makes a point: the Republicans who just voted to oust Santos should have done some simple arithmetic before doing so.

Well..
Now in 2024, we will have a 1 seat majority in the House of Representatives.
Congratulations Freedom Caucus for one and 105 Rep who expel our own for the other.
I can assure you Republican voters didn't give us the majority to crash the ship.
Hopefully no one dies.
Hopefully McCarthy will get a high-paying job as a lobbyist which will allow him to move out of Frank Luntz's couch.
Gaetz, on the other hand, continues taunting McCarthy, tweeting "McLeavin'." Maybe he should consider what would happen if McCarthy left now instead of at the end of December. Maybe a little grace in victory would be prudent.
I'm just really getting tired of people we elect into positions of responsibility who just want to use their jobs as Congressmen as an entree to the job they really want, Social Media Influencer.
I know Matt Gaetz has his defenders. Let me give you the take from the other side: There are certain people who, like the Kardashians, are always making demands on our attention, and frequently have very little to contribute. Their bids for attention turn out to be nothing but bids for attention. Again, like the Kardashians.
Now if you really like the Kardashians, you might like when they demand your attention.
If you are meh on them, you begin to hate them. You begin to really get tired of their attention-whoring antics. Public figures should worry when the amount of attention they actually deserve gets greatly outpaced by the amount of attention they demand.
This is why I just don't cover Trump unless absolutely required to; he's just exhausted me. I cannot put up with the drama and bluster and constant demands on my attention.
I think a lot of people have similarly reached the limits of their Trump endurance.
I think Trump is benefiting from being relatively low-profile, compared to his previous media omnipresence. Getting banned from most social media and propaganda legacy media has inadvertently helped him. But he may lose some of that tolerance when he's back in the media more often.
