Ace of Spades Headlines

Can I tell you a funny story? I invited a friend to come meet some of my other friends, the latter from college. He wasn't quite ready for them.

He began speaking, saying "I read a story once..." and my college friends, as if they'd planned it, began screaming:

"Moby Dick!"

"Dracula! Dracula!"

"The one where she sells her hair!!!"

"The Cask of Amontillado!"

"THE LOTTERY!!! THE LOTTERY!! THE LOTTERY!!!"

They were screaming as if this guy said, "If you guess the story you win my Camaro," but he had not said that.

This new friend actually jumped back from the extreme energy and aggressiveness of these guesses.

They hadn't planned this at all, just one guy started in, and then they were all ready to seize and pounce like verbal piranhas.

I laughed so hard. I wasn't in on it, unfortunately. I didn't have the mind-meld that they did.
