Cool live performance of "What a Fool Believes"
In this interview, Kenny Loggins tells the story of co-writing the song with Michael McDonald. After writing it, they were both going to release their own versions of the song. They agreed that Kenny Loggins would release his first. But due to a delay in his album, the Doobie Brothers' version came out first, and became a huge hit. Loggins' version is little-remembered and, to be honest, justifiably obscure.
After What a Fool Believes, they wrote another song, which they thought should be a deliberately bad song so that they didn't jinx themselves. But that was a big hit too: "This Is It," with Loggins on main vocal and McDonald on backing vocals.
