The Telegraph: Con Coughlin: US government shutdown: Barack Obama is presiding over the end of America's superpower status
"Thanks to President Barack Obama obduracy over his flagship healthcare policy, Democrats and Republicans have failed to reach agreement in Congress on the federal budget, forcing the US Government to close down for the first time in 17 years, with around 700,000 federal workers being placed on indefinite leave." Sean Trende: The Politics of the Government Shutdown
Several good points. "2. John Boehner is not Newt Gingrich, and Barack Obama is not Bill Clinton." [rdbrewer]

Ed: DC worries: Will shutdown mean we’re finally going to feel the recession?
Great chart. Also from Ed: Rand Paul: Let's have a one-week CR so we can have time to negotiate in conference. What could be more reasonable? [rdbrewer]

Jon Stewart is apparently dumb
Obamacare, "it's a f***ing law!" And so were those parts of Obamacare that Obama unilaterally changed. The Executive must uphold the law of the land. That's what the Constitution says. It does not say the Executive can uphold the laws he likes or feels are convenient to uphold. The House is acting within constitutional limits; Obama is not. So Stewart's dumb response is exactly backward. Added: Charles Krauthammer on that issue. [rdbrewer]
