Jonah discusses two problems with the Panetta doctrine. And I would add a third: It precludes the possibility of sending a provisional force. Why not send the rescue mission on the chance you might okay it later? You know, if you changed your mind. The fact a provisional force wasn't sent indicates Panetta is lying, that it wasn't about real-time intel (which we did have)--that it was about politics. [rdbrewer]
