I think it's usually foolish to try to classify a movie as "conservative" or "liberal," but this does give me a chance to mention a little-known fact about The Island.
I watched Bay's DVD commentary, and he said that before the sex scene Scarlett Johansson wouldn't come out of her trailer. He thought it was because she was nervous about the mild nudity, but when he went to her it turned out that she was enraged that she had to wear a "stupid ghetto bra" for the scene and wanted to do it completely nude instead.
He persuaded her to wear the bra. Sigh.
