Dealing with bullies [Dave in Texas]
Somehow I suspected they would not recommend defending yourself.
This tripe was written by people with degrees who ostensibly are in the business of helping people.
There's a little bit in here about soliciting the help of friends to stand up to the bully.. which isn't all bad. Hey, if the bastard is twice your size, standing up to him ain't easy.
The only thing that gets a bully off of you is kicking his ass. That's it.
If you need a little help, go for it. Adam Baldwin was a great bodyguard.
I always told my kid (who was bullied once) if you can't get em to leave you alone, and you can't get a teacher to make it stop, do what you have to do. I'll back you up. Don't start anything, but if you have to finish something, go ahead. I guess that's a partial endorsement of the "try to get out of it if you can" advice, but it never makes them stop.
You would not believe the incredulous reaction I got from the principal when I told her I fully supported my child's response to a knucklehead, and if she didn't like it, she better fix the knucklehead.
Which now that I think about it sounds a lot like "restrain yourself, Israel".
